Tool-ID / Data media

Norm: DIN 69873

DIN 69873 specifies dimensions for data carriers and their installation space for tools and clamping devices and other operating equipment.

The mounting position of the data carrier is specified in the respective product standard:
-- for hollow taper shanks according to DIN 69 893 part 1 and part 2
-- for toolholders with straight shank to DIN 69 880 Part 1
-- for steep taper shanks for automatic tool change according to DIN 69 871 part 1
-- for tightening bolts for tong clamping according to DIN 69 872

In the characteristics of the articles in our online shop, you will find information on whether a data carrier hole is available.

With the user data on the data carrier chip, it is possible to assign relevant user data to specific tools in order to effectively design the machining processes on machine tools.
This data is typically geometric information such as diameter, length, number of cutting edges, etc., but also information on planned service life, tool life, max. speed.

The RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) data carriers from Balluff in Neuhausen are the industry standard for tool identification and workpiece tracking.

Principle of function
The reading cycles of the data carriers are unlimited. The maximum read/write distance is 2.5 mm. The maximum number of programming cycles at a maximum ambient temperature of 70 °C is 500,000 cycles. The maximum number of programming cycles at a maximum ambient temperature of 30 °C is 1,000,000 cycles.
The following read/write heads can be used for this: BIS-C 300/302/305/306/325.
