Maintenance and care of tool holders

"Rust is our friend and enemy. It is dangerous in the house and in storage, but if it rusts otherwise, we have nothing against it."
Paul Mauser (German weapons designer, entrepreneur and politician)

We agree with the opinion of Mr. Mauser. From our point of view, you should not maintain the tool holders and regularly buy new ones.
If you disagree, here is a short overview on "Maintenance and care of tool holders":

Maintenance and care of tool holders

Tool holders are high-precision technical products that require a certain amount of care.

Commissioning and recommissioning
- Remove the tool holder from the packaging
- Clean the tool holder with a hand rag to remove the preservative oil.
Do not use aggressive solvents or fibrous materials such as cleaning wool.
-> The tool holder is ready for use.

Maintenance / Servicing
While the tool holder is in use, it comes into contact with coolant or is exposed to the oily mist of the coolant. Therefore, clean the tool holder periodically with a hand cloth. The interval depends on the degree of contamination.
Do not clean and dry hydraulic chucks, synchro collet chucks and similar holders in a car wash, as this may damage the installed elements and seals.

In principle, the tool holder can also be cleaned in solvent if it is heavily encrusted. Solvents are contained, for example, in petroleum ether, thinner, brake cleaner, etc. Afterwards, however, it must be carefully treated with preservative oil.

Decommissioning
If the tool holder is taken out of operation, the following operations must be carried out:
- Clean the tool holder with a hand cloth.
- Spray or rub the tool holder with a preservative oil to prevent rust formation.
- Before storage, all cooling lubricant residues and machining residues must be removed.
